My name is Sheliah Collins and I am uninsured. I was previously covered under my husband's insurance, but I divorced him last year.

I work for General Pest Control and my employer offers insurance, but it is too expensive for me. There is a $2,000 deductible and then $120/month just for me. I make $11/hour and I have two children. I looked outside of the company for health insurance policies, but those were even more expensive. I just can't afford it.

I am in generally good health although I do need medication for migraines and a little bit of depression. I had to stop taking both of these because I couldn't afford the medication.

I think a lot of people would rather try to suffer through their health issues because they can't afford to get them taken care of. They don't have a choice. People shouldn't have to gamble with their health. It is a shame.

I was hospitalized because of a fluke incident recently. I tried to get rated at the public hospital and that told me I make $170 too much to qualify for assistance. Now I am stuck paying $10,000 in hospitalization fees out of pocket. I make too much money to qualify for assistance, but I don't make enough money to take care of my health care needs on top of my other daily needs on my own.
